1. Alexander Hay
Born 01 Aug 1784 in Spittal & Ford, Northumberland. Died 20 Mar 1868 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer, Blacksmith. Religion Presbyterian.
Alexander Hay and his wife Jane and a family of eight children ranging in age from 21 years to 1 year, left from the port Berwick-upon-Tweed on 28 May 1837 on the brig Cornelius of Sunderland, and arrived in Saint John, NB 12 Jul 1837. They travelled to Fredericton on the steamer, Water Witch. They received Land Grant Lot #13W, 92 acres, in Harvey Settlement and were among the first settlers of Harvey. Their second child, Andrew, born 1817, died on 12 May 1838, as they were getting settled on their land grant. (It is believed he died of appendicitis--from stories passed down through family tradition.) Andrew was buried on their own land, and in the 1950s the gravestone was moved to Harvey Settlement Cemetery.
He married Jane Robinson, 4 Jun 1815 in Ford, Parish Records & Dissenters, Eng. Born Approx 1794 in Eng. Died 22 Jun 1878 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

3. Andrew Hay
Son of Alexander Hay & Jane Robinson. Born 1817 in Eng. Christen 28 Oct 1817 in Spittal United Presbyterian. Died 12 May 1838 in Harvey. Andrew was the first person to die in the new community. He was struck by a searing pain in his abdomen and is believed to have died of acute appendicitis. He was buried on his father's farm and for many years the grave marker was observed by the early settlers. The gravestone was later moved to Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

It would appear that John's first wife died before the 1861 Census was taken. Children: Jessie, Robert and Susanna were born approx. 1855 to 1860, and appear in the 1861 census living in Harvey Settlement with grandparents Alexander and Jane, and John and Jane. (Susanna or Susan was possibly Jane's daughter.) In the 1871 Census, Robert age15, and Susan age 11, are living with John Hay and his wife Elizabeth, and Jessie, age 16, is in the home of John Dorcas and Margaret.
He first married Margaret, 9 Oct 1855 in Charlotte Co., NB. Died Approx 1856/1860.
Unable to decipher Margaret's surname from marriage record--looks like "Corkeran" or some similar name beginning with the letter "C". (P. 30, Charlotte Co. Marriages, RS148, F15477. Married by James Quinn, Church of the Immaculate Conception.)

There are two dates in the York County, New Brunswick, Marriage Records, Book D, 1866-1879, for Jane's marriage to John Edmonds: 1868 by John Taylor, Justice of the Peace, and 22 Feb 1869 by Rev. Samuel Johnson. (At that time there were newspaper items regarding the first marriage date and the fact that John Taylor wasn't licensed to perform marriages, so at a later date a second ceremony was performed by the minister.) Witnesses on the first date were John Hay and William Hay, and on the second, John Hay and Elizabeth Hay.

William's first wife was Eunice Brown, and from this marriage he had six children: Melvina, Henry, William, Adalaide, Howard and Alice Maude. (The first two or three born in Harvey, then the family moved to Stanley.)
William's second wife was Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Wilkin, and from this marriage there were six children: Agnes, Nellie, Frederick, Emma (or Emily), and Winnie, all born in Stanley.
The family is listed in the 1891 Census for Stanley, but not in the 1901 Census. It is believed the family moved to western Canada. (Possibly Sask.)

Robert and his wife and two daughters, Amanda and Isabella were living in Manners Sutton at the time of the 1871 Census, and Robert was a shoemaker.
Robert was living in Lincoln, ME in 1886 when he sold his farm in Williamsburg. (Land Reg. F5653, v.85, p. 296)
Robert and Annie had a large family: Amanda, Isabel, Sarah Marie, Matilda, then two died, then Arthur, Martha, Elizabeth and Eva. In 1921 they were all married and living in the States (letter).

Mrs Alexander Hay
The death of Frances D., beloved wife of Alexander Hay, occurred at her home on the Valley Road, January 18th, aged seventy one years. Frances Dunlop Hay was born at Caverhill, February 22, 1852, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs David Dunlop of Upper Caverhill, York county. She was united in marriage with Alex Hay of the Parish of Manners Sutton, York county, April 9th 1873.
Of this union six children were born, four of whom survive, Mrs Alex Kyle of Calais, Mrs Frank Ham of Lewiston, Mrs Alfred Thomas of St. Stephen and Frederick B. at home. Seventeen grandchildren and one brother, Simpson C. Dunlop of Skowhegan, Me., also survive her.
She had been in failing health for some months and all that loving hands could do could not prolong her life and she passed peacefully away.
Devoted to her home circle, her life had been a quiet one but her influence for good was manifest in the home and all with whom she was associated.
The funeral service was held at her home Friday last by Rev. Dr. W. C. Gorcher, assisted by Rev. W. W. Malcolm, interment being made in the St. Stephen Cemetery. The funeral was largely attended. To the aged husband and other sorrowing ones general sympathy is extended.
In their early married life, Mr and Mrs Hay united with the Presbyterian church at Harvey Settlement where they resided fifteen years before coming to St. Stephen.

In 1901 Census for Manners Sutton, John Hay had 150 acres, a 5-room house, 4 barns, and the family was living adjacent to Isaac and Nancy Burrell.
He married Elizabeth Burrell, daughter of Robert Burrell & Ann Piercy, 9 Oct 1874 in St. Paul's, Fredericton, By Rev. John M. Brooke . Born 20 Jun 1852 in Harvey. Christen 16 Aug 1852 in St. Paul's Church Records. Died 21 Jun 1934 in West Saint John. Buried 23 Jun 1934 in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Religion Presbyterian.
Witnesses to marriage were Alexander Hay and Frances Hay.
When Elizabeth died in 1934, she was survived by her husband, and four daughters: Mrs Harry Watters, Fairville; Mrs W. G. Humble, Vancouver; Mrs G. M. McCutcheon, Boston; Mrs George Swan, Brownville, Me.; one son, Albert Hay, West Saint John.
In the 1901 Census, Elizabeth's birth date is given as: 8 Sep 1852.

Late Mrs John Hay
Harvey Station, June 27 -- The body of the late Mrs John Hay was brought from Saint John for burial on Saturday, June 23rd.
The funeral service was held in the Presbyterian Church at two o'clock and conducted by Rev. George E. Knight. The choir sang Peace Perfect Peace, Asleep in Jesus and Abide With Me.
The church was filled with relatives and friends who came to pay their last respects to one who by her kindly quiet and sympathetic way won her a host of friends among the young as well as older people. She was always interested in any good work and ever ready to lend a helping hand where needed. Mrs Hay lived in Harvey all her life until about five years ago, when she moved to Saint John. She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church. There was a large number of beautiful floral pieces from friends in Saint John and Harvey. The pall bearers were John Calvin, Pearly Watters, Wesley Hay, Albert Messer, Hazen Burrell, Colby Brown. Service at the grave also by Mr McKnight.

In the 1861 Census, Robert was 4 years old and his sister Jessie Levina was 6 years old, therefore he perhaps was born approx. 1856. However, the date of his birth on the gravestone in the Harvey Settlement Cemetery is 1854.
He married Mary H. Wilkin, daughter of Herbert Wilkin & Jane Gass, 4 Nov 1884 in St. Paul's Church, Fredericton By Rev. A. J. Mowatt. Born 20 Feb 1860 in Harvey. Died 15 Feb 1952 in McAdam. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

McAdam--The death of Mrs Mary Hay, age 92, occurred at her home in McAdam. Her health had been failing for sometime, but she was up each day to within a few days of her death. She was one of McAdam's oldest and most respected residents.
Mrs Hay was born at Harvey and came to McAdam to live about 50 years ago. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church, a quiet person of retiring disposition, but very kind, charitible and very hospitable. Her interests centred in her home and family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Hay, and is survived by one son, Earl Hay, and one daughter, Gertrude Hay, both of McAdam. A second son, Frank, predeceased her; one sister, Mrs Fred Embleton, McAdam and one brother, James Wilkin, Harvey also survive, and six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Burial was at Harvey.

Alex's first wife, Mary Ann Coburn, died of tuberculosis, and his second wife, Georgie Nesbitt, died of premature child birth. Alex lived at York Mills and had an excelsior mill, and he and his son Roy rebuilt the Woolen Mill. This family moved to Alberta, and Alex died in Lethbridge, Alberta.
Alex and Mary Ann had nine children, four died of tuberculosis and one died in World War I.

ALEXANDER LITTLE
Brockway, Feb. 17 -- Word has been received here of the death at Lethbridge, Alta., of Alexander Little, former owner and operator of the Woollen Mills at York Mills. Mr Little was a native of Harvey, York County, but moved west some years ago with his family, of whom there are three sons and one daughter living from a family of nine. He had returned to Alberta early last fall from a visit here and had many friends in this community, who regret to hear of his passing.

Albert was a farmer and lived on Lot C, original Land Grant to his father Matthew Little. This land was later farmed by Albert's son, Oscar, and then to grandson Roderick.
Albert was married twice, his first wife, Elizabeth Coburn died in childbirth at the age of 22 years. By his second marriage, to Jane Agnes Lister, he had four children, Oscar, Howard, Lizzie and Edwin.

John Albert Little
John Albert Little passed away recently at his home at Harvey, N.B. He had been in failing health for the last few years, although confined to bed only two months. He is survived by his wife, formerly Jane Agnes Lister; one daughter, Mrs J. Lorne Coffey, Harvey Station; and two sons, Howard M., York Mills, N.B. and Oscar B., at home, also two sisters, Mrs Robert Robison, Vancouver, and Mrs Edgar Coburn, McAdam, and one brother, Charles, Harvey.
The funeral was held from the Universalist Church, which was filled to capacity. Rev. Alex McKay, of the United Church, conducted the service, assisted by Rev. J. F. McKay, McAdam. Two hymns were sung by a quartet from the United Church, while two members of the Universalist choir sang a duet. The floral tributes were beautiful.
Mr Little was born in Harvey in 1856. He was a farmer and life-long Universalist. For years he was secretary of the Farmers' Trading Company, also for years superintendent of the Sunday School.

Thos Wilson Dies At Harvey Station
Harvey Station, Feb 1 -- The death occurred at his home here on Friday morning of Thomas Wilson, one of Harvey's most respected residents, at the age of 73 years. Mr Wilson had been a lifelong resident of this locality, having been engaged in farming for many years. Although in failing health for several years he remained active and interested in the life of the community until death came suddenly at the last.
He is survived by his wife, who was Eleanor T. Grieve; three sons, Hugh A., of Harvey; Willard N. of McAdam, and Thomas E. of New York; and seven daughters, Mrs J. A. Wood of Tweedside, Mrs Amos Moffitt of McAdam, Mrs Gordon Dykeman of Hoquiam, Wash., the Misses Mabel and Helen, of Portland, Me., and the Misses Zella and Dora, at home.
The funeral took place from his late residence on Sunday afternoon and was very largely attended. Rev. G. E. Knight, pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Harvey, conducted a very impressive funeral service and sang a lovely solo, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Other hymns sung were "Asleep In Jesus" and "Peace, Perfect Peace."
Interment was made in the Manners Sutton Cemetery.

Em and Bob lived in Harvey until 1900 or 1901, then moved to Vancouver, BC. They had eight children, seven were born in Harvey and the youngest was born in Greenwood, BC.

Died in Vancouver. Robert Herbert Robison, Formerly of Harvey Station, Had Lived in Vancouver 40 Years.
Harvey Station, NB, Dec 30 -- Word has been received here of the death on Dec 8th of Robert Herbert Robison at his home, 1133 Hornby Street, Vancouver, BC.
Mr Robison was born at Harvey Station on Nov 30th, 1861, a son of pioneer residents of Harvey, Marshall and Mary (Herbert) Robison.
About forty years ago he took up residence in Vancouver, where he made many friends who learned of his death with genuine regret. He had been in failing health for about a month but his death came as a shock. He is survived by his wife, formerly Miss Emily Little, of Coburn, two sons, Jeffrey and Roy Robison, Vancouver; five daughters, Mrs Harry Homewood of Duncan, BC, Mrs James McCrae of Port Alice, BC, Mrs John McCallum of Nanaimo, BC, Mrs John Walker and Mrs C. W. Oliver of Vancouver; several grandchildren including three grandsons in the R.C.A.F., Robert Homewood, Jeffrey McCrae and Jack Walker; and one brother, Kenneth J. Robison, Vancouver.
The funeral was held on Saturday in Vancouver West, with Dr. McCall of St. Andrew's Wesley United Church officiating, Mr Robison having been a faithful member of that church for many years. Dr. McCall referred to the many good qualities of the deceased and a good life fittingly ended. The pallbearers were Kenneth, Jeffrey and Roy Robison, John McCallum, John Walker and A. McMillan. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Burial was made in the family plot in Mountain View Cemetery beside a little daughter Clara, who died several years ago.
