Born Approx 1836. Died Between 1891/1901 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer.

 

Not sure of relationship between this Aaron Dorcas born 1836 and the earlier generation   Aaron Dorcas born 1774 and William Dorcas born 1796.   Further research needs to be done.

 

From Headquarters, 4 Sep 1861: "Married Manse of St. Paul's, 28th ult., by Rev. Dr. Brooke, Aaron Darcus, and Miss Elizabeth Blizzard, both of this parish (York Co.)"

 

From York Co NB Marriage Register C 1850-1866 (PANB):   witnesses were Leveret Blizzard and Sarah Blizzard.

 

He married Elizabeth Blizzard, 28 Aug 1861 in Manse, St. Paul's Church, Fredericton . Born 16 Jun 1841 in Fredericton.

Son of Aaron Dorcas & Elizabeth Blizzard. Born 12 Jul 1861. Died 1925. Buried in Williamsburg Cemetery.

   

William S. Dorcas and Margaret R. Dorcas had fourteen children:   Isobel "Belle", Jane "Jennie", Amos Albert, James Harold, Margaret Elizabeth, Clara Irene, Annie, Douglas Duncan, Sarah, Jessie, Della, Frank Wilfred, and Arthur.   Information on this family is in "William Dorcas Genealogy" by The Nashwaak Bicentennial Assoc., beginning on page 9.

   

He married Margaret Rebecca "Maggie" Dorcas, daughter of James Dorcas & Isabella Buchanan. Born 25 Dec 1870. Died 1947. Buried in Williamsburg Cemetery.

3. Mary Anne "Annie" Dorcas

Daughter of Aaron Dorcas & Elizabeth Blizzard. Born 5 May 1862. Died 1921. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

   

After the death of her first husband, Charles Irvine Christie, Annie married John Wilkins.

   

She first married Charles Irvine Christie, son of John Christie & Elizabeth Jane Gass, 25 Jun 1879 in Lawlor's Hotel, St. Stephen. Born 20 Feb 1853. Died 1882 in Harvey.

   

From Daily Telegraph, 11 Jul 1879:   "Married Lawlor's Hotel, St. Stephen, 25th ult., by Rev. Wm P. Beggs, Charles I. Christie and Annie Dorcas both of Harvey Settlement."

   

Charles died young.   Charles and Annie had one son.

   

They had the following children:

She second married John Wilkin, son of Herbert Wilkin & Jane Gass, 25 Dec 1884 in York Co., NB By Robert Nevin, Presbyterian . Born 20 Aug 1856 in Cumberland Co., England. Died 10 Aug 1940 in Harvey. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery. Occupation Farmer.

   

Witnesses to marriage were Nicholas Wilkin and Mary Lister.

John Wilkin, 84, Widely Mourned.

Harvey Station, N.B., Aug 14 -- John Wilkin, Thomaston, N.B., passed away at his home in his 84th year.   Although in failing health for several years he was able to be around until recently.   Mr Wilkin was born in Cumberland County, Eng.   With his parents he came to New Brunswick in 1853 (sic) when very young and had since resided in Thomaston.   He was well known in the community and surrounding districts.

   

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs Clarence Little, York Mills; Mrs Robert Douglas, New Westminister, B.C.; Mrs James Ward, Napadogan; two sons, Elmer, York Mills, and Henry, Thomaston; 11 grandchildren; one great grandson; five sisters, Mrs Mary Hay, Mrs Margaret Little, Mrs Fred Embleton, McAdam; and Janet and Katherine, Thomaston; and one brother, James, Thomaston.

   

Interment was in Harvey Cemetery.

She married William James Christie, son of John Christie & Elizabeth Jane Gass, 15 Sep 1886 in Harvey Presbyterian Church Records By A. J. McLean . Born 25 Dec 1864 in Wilmot, York Co., N.B. Died 20 Nov 1944. Buried in Rockland Cemetery, McAdam.

   

Witnesses to marriage were Marjorie Christie and John Dorcas.

Daughter of Aaron dorcas and Elizabeth Blizzard.

William and Elizabeth were married on September 15, 1886 
at the Presbyterian Manse in Harvey. Witnesses were 
Marjory Christie and John Dorcas.
(Elizabeth's sister Annie married William's brother Charles 
Christie ; who died and then John wilkin)
William and Elizabeth  lived at Christie Ridge in the 
homestead. Years later he sold the property and moved to 
McAdam where he built a home. For a number of years prior 
to his death , he made his home with his daughter Bessie 
Christie. and later with another daughter Cora Charters, 
in Christie Ridge,where he died. 
He and Elizabeth are buried in the McAdam cemetery..
They had 11 children-Roy, Walter, Charles, Cora Jane, 
Edith Augusta, Elizabeth May ( Bessie) Minnie may, Mina, 
Russell James, Robert James, and Albert.

She married George Edward Smith, son of Alexander James Smith & Mary Bell, 12 Jun 1895 in Harvey Presbyterian Church Records. Born 21 Jan 1869 in Wilmot. Christen in Harvey Presbyterian Church. Died 3 Feb 1932 in Wilmot. Buried in Harvey Settlement Cemetery.

George Smith

Harvey, Feb 10 -- Stricken on Wednesday afternoon with a severe heart attack, George Smith, of Harvey, passed away at his home about seven o'clock of the same day.  He was a son of the late Alexander and Mary Smith and is survived by four daughters and three sons.  They are Edward, Ella and Edith, of Portland, Maine; Harry, of McAdam, also Mrs Godkin, Fred and Nellie, at home.  Four grandchildren also survive.

   

The funeral was held from his home on Friday afternoon.  All his children were present.  Mr. H. Galbraith, of Saint John, conducted the funeral service.  Interment was made in the Harvey cemetery.

   

Mr Smith will be mourned by very many friends from whom will go deep sympathy to those so sadly bereaved by his death.  He was sixty years of age.

William Smith

Harvey, April 10 -- Our community has been saddened by the death of William Smith, eldest son of the late Alexander Smith, at his residence here.  

Although he had been in failing health for some time, the news of his death came as a shock to his friends.

   

He was of middle age, a highly respected resident, of a kind and genial disposition and of sterling character.   He is survived by his three daughters, his mother, three brothers and five sisters.   The daughters are Mrs Scott McPherson of Nashwaak, Mrs Kenneth Murphy of Chipman, and Audrey, at home.
